Yo La La ! was a show about French rap. It was aimed at educating Anglophones about some aspects of the current state -and the history- of the French hip-hop scene. It featured old and new songs as well as a non-French guest tracks every now and then.

Not a ska special, but tracks featuring crazy lyrics delivered with insane flows over mad instrumentals. International guest tracks are from Germany, the USA and the UK.

  • "Le style des guedins" by Freko Ding' and Cyanure from ATK could be found on Micro Test, their first LP.
  • "Bad Trippeuz" by Psykopat was re-released in 2007 on their Antholopsy compilation, you can get it as a single cheap mp3 download here.
  • "L'antre de la folie" is the eponymous track of the historical 2000 experimental French rap compilation, featuring James Delleck and l'Armee des Douze.
  • "Camisole chimique" by Soklak and Sept is from the 2006 Soul'Sodium compilation
  • "Die Stimmen hören mich" by Mädness can hear you from his 2009 album "Als hätt ich nix getan"
  • "Harry Potter" lives in El Guante's Haunted Studio Appartment
  • "Love Games" are played on Tony Montana's "The World is Yours"

If you liked what you heard on Yo La La !, by all means do buy the artists' albums. The French rap market is in no way comparable to the US market so most of these guys are far from being millionaires. Many have day jobs, live off welfare or worse.

Yo La La! has been around for a while now, so don't forget to check out the 2008, 2007, 2006 and 2005 shows too!
