Yo La La ! is a show about French rap. It is aimed at educating Anglophones about some aspects of the current state -and the history- of the French hip-hop scene. It features old and new songs as well as a non-French guest tracks every now and then.

If you liked what you heard on Yo La La !, by all means do buy the artists' albums. The French rap market is in no way comparable to the US market so most of these guys are far from being millionaires. Many have day jobs, live off welfare or worse. Julien C., hip-hop activist and scholar talks about the relationship between the French hip-hop scene and the government, bands he likes and events he helped create:

-the Paris Hip-Hop festival (concerts, exhibits, debates, films showings etc) all around Paris lasted 2 weeks and attracted 15'000 hip-hop fans.

-the Rue event at the Grand-Palais (concerts, dance shows, graffiti and street sports) lasted 3 days and attracted 50'000 visitors.
